Indoor Air Quality Studies: Sterling Savings and Loan Corporation Headquarters; Spokane, Washington.

Exhibits technical expertise in evaluating a wide variety of indoor air contaminants within a politically sensitive environment.

Fulcrum was contracted by Sterling Savings Association to provide Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) studies of the Frederick and Nelson (F&N) building. Following extensive reconstruction, indoor air quality complaints by staff became common. Fulcrum interviewed affected employees and performed a survey of the complex for potential sources. As a result of project scooping, samples of indoor air under various conditions were obtained and analyzed for Bioaerosols (mold, bacteria, and fungi). Air exchange rates were evaluated in areas of persistent complaints and key indicators of air quality were tested including respirable particulate, fibrous particulate, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Test methods were in accordance with protocol established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists/National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (ACGIH/NIOSH) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning engineers (ASHRAE). Owner implementations of recommendations based upon test results appear to have had a positive effect on perceived air quality.
