Description of Service
Light ballasts are the primary
electric component of fluorescent light fixtures and
are generally located within the fixture under a
metal cover plate. Light ballasts produced prior to
1979 commonly contained PCBs. Many of the
fluorescent light fixtures present in today’s
facilities are beginning to see the end of their
effective lifespan. As increasing numbers of
polychlorinated biphenyls containing light ballasts
fail, businesses will have to continue to evaluate
the liability associated with potential employee
exposure, adverse environmental impact, or increased
regulatory oversight.
