Driven by site-specific Phase I findings, Phase II ESAs can be as simple as sampling building materials for asbestos or as complex as evaluating contaminant migration in soil and groundwater. Phase II Investigations may include: sampling and analysis of building materials, soil or groundwater, risk assessment; cleanup recommendations; preliminary projections of cleanup cost; or analysis of regulatory relevance.
Potential releases of petroleum products such as gas, diesel, and waste oil are a common focus of Phase II Investigation. Indoor investigations typically focus on building materials such as asbestos and lead in paint as well as concerns for biological contaminants and handling/storage of hazardous materials. Fulcrum's personnel concentrate on defining and quantifying the presence or absence of contamination so that a remedy can proceed as quickly and cost effectively as site-specific circumstances allow.
PHASE II ESA ELEMENTS
Soil and Groundwater:
Presence and distribution of contaminants
Source(s) and character of contaminants
Hydrogeologic properties controlling migration
Outlet points where contaminant release may have adverse effects
Cleanup technology best suited to site-specific conditions
