Whether the goal is groundwater cleanup or protection, a thorough understanding of groundwater's physical and chemical character is essential. Our experience allows us to complement basic hydrogeological data with computer modeling to document plume distribution and behavior. We are experienced with migration models designed to evaluate release scenarios ranging from small leaks of long duration to catastrophic releases occurring instantaneously. We have modeled vertical migration in the unsaturated zone, spread of the contaminant lens on the top of the groundwater table, and downgradient migration. Elapsed time for natural degradation and differential mobility of toxic chemicals have been modeled and utilized in the decision-making process.
Aquifer protection is essential to maintain viability of groundwater resources. Fulcrum has worked closely with affected communities and land owners to protect and more effectively manage their water supply system. We have generated Wellhead Protection Plans (WHP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans (SPCC), and Groundwater Monitoring Plans (GMP) to reduce the risk from contaminant sources and identifies community actions that compensate for loss of water production in the event that a well or wellfield becomes unusable.
