Job Description:

Fulcrum Environmental Consulting, Inc., an environmental consulting firm is seeking a Staff Geologist as we expand our team.

Located in the heart of central Washington State, Fulcrum Environmental Consulting is surrounded by natural beauty and open spaces. Fulcrum’s geologic and hydrogeologic work includes a wide range of investigation and assessment responsibilities, from common underground storage tank site assessments to complex hydrogeologic investigations. As a staff geologist you will assist with environmental investigations, Phase I ESA, and support environmental planning projects.

Successful candidates will have completed a Bachelor of Geology, Earth Sciences, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or closely aligned field. We generally anticipate that staff geologists will have 3 to 5 years of post-graduation experience in the environmental consulting industry.

This position will assist Fulcrum’s Project Leaders with a variety of tasks such as:

  • Conducting groundwater, soil, and air sampling
  • Documenting field observations, including soil characterization (USCS)
  • Using, calibrating, and troubleshooting field instrumentation
  • Coordinating with laboratories and other subcontractors
  • Monitoring and documentation of environmental investigations and remediation
  • Underground storage tank investigation and site assessments
  • Observing remedial excavation and historical property use research
  • Completing with data analysis and preparation of technical reports
  • Developing figures and tables for technical reports
  • Preparing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments per ASTM Designation E1527-21

Responsibilities will include field work activities, documentation, data analysis/data organization, and technical report preparation. Field work is performed in a range of weather conditions and qualified candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record to travel to project sites as needed.

The following are the minimum skills & qualifications for this position:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Geology, Hydrogeology, or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years of applicable professional experience
  • Ability to effectively interact with clients, regulatory agencies, technical staff, and subcontractors
  • Experience preparing project work plans, health and safety plans, erosion control plans, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of MTCA, CERCLA, RCRA, and associated state, local, and federal regulations, or similar
  • Clarity in written product, strong oral communications, and professional dress and presence

We’d also really like to see these preferred skills & qualifications:

  • Development of clients and services to existing clients through professional relationships, effective project management, and personal investment in project outcomes
  • Superior technical field craft, including planning, execution, and record keeping during completion of environmental investigations and monitoring
  • Desire to lead projects, teams, and even our firm

Successful candidates will pursue and acquire the following certifications prior to joining or during their first year:

  • 40 hour Hazardous Waste Emergency Response Operations (HAZWOPER)
  • Washington State Underground Storage Tank Site Assessor Certification
  • Washington State Licensed Geologist or Geologist in Training
  • First Aid and CPR
  • In-house project leadership training

Over time we expect that you will develop expertise and recognition as a firm and regional technical expert. As you progress, the complexity and difficulty of projects are expected to increase and your responsibilities for project decisions and leadership can increase as well. We will assist your development with in-house training, online course, and conference attendance.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour
